Jonny William Flynn, born on February 6, 1989, is an American who used to play professional basketball. He played for three years in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He also played college basketball for the Syracuse Orange team. His last team was Orlandina Basket in Italy.

High School Basketball Career
Jonny Flynn played high school basketball at Niagara Falls High School. In 2005, his team won the New York state championships. He was also named Mr. New York Basketball in his senior year. This award goes to the best high school basketball player in New York.
When he graduated in 2007, experts ranked him as one of the top basketball recruits. He was seen as the 4th best point guard in the country. Flynn was also chosen as a McDonald's All-American in 2007. This is a special game for the best high school players.
In his senior year, Flynn was amazing on the court. He scored about 26.7 points per game. He also made 6.0 assists, 3.5 steals, and 3.3 rebounds per game.
College Basketball Career
Playing for Syracuse Orange
Jonny Flynn played college basketball for the Syracuse Orange team.
Freshman Year (2007–08)
In his very first college game on November 12, 2007, Flynn scored 28 points. This was a new record for a freshman player at Syracuse. He later scored 28 points again in a game against Pittsburgh.
Flynn had a great first year. He was named co-Big East Rookie of the Year. He averaged 15.7 points and 5.3 assists per game. He and another freshman, Donté Greene, were a powerful scoring duo.
Sophomore Year (2008–09)
Before his second season, Flynn was named to the preseason All-Big East team. He started the season strong with 27 points against Richmond. A week later, he scored 25 points and made a game-winning shot against Kansas. Syracuse won in overtime, and Flynn was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player (MVP).
Flynn showed off his amazing jumping skills in a game against Rutgers. He made a powerful dunk over an opposing player.
In the 2009 Big East tournament, Flynn led Syracuse to an incredible win. They played against Connecticut in a six-overtime game. Flynn played for 67 out of 70 minutes. He scored 34 points and had 11 assists. The next day, he played all 45 minutes in another overtime win against West Virginia. Even though Syracuse lost the championship game to Louisville, Flynn was named the tournament's MVP.
In his first NCAA tournament game, Flynn scored 16 points and had 7 assists. Syracuse won and moved on to the "Sweet Sixteen" round.
Moving to the NBA
On April 9, 2009, Flynn announced he would enter the 2009 NBA draft. He officially decided to leave Syracuse and play professionally. He was chosen as the sixth overall pick by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2009 NBA draft.
Professional Basketball Career
Minnesota Timberwolves (2009–2011)
Jonny Flynn was drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves as the sixth pick in the 2009 NBA draft. Many people had high hopes for him. In his first season, he played well, averaging 13.5 points and 4.4 assists per game.
On October 28, 2009, Flynn made his NBA debut. He helped the Timberwolves come back from a 19-point deficit to win against the New Jersey Nets. On December 14, 2009, he scored 28 points and made the game-winning shot against the Utah Jazz.
On January 18, 2010, he scored a career-high 29 points against the Philadelphia 76ers. At the end of his first season, Flynn was chosen for the NBA All-Rookie Second Team. On January 31, 2010, he had a career-high eight rebounds against the New York Knicks.
In the summer of 2010, Flynn had hip surgery. This surgery affected his playing in the next season. His performance in the 2010–11 season was not as strong. He averaged 5.3 points and 3.4 assists per game. On March 2, 2011, Flynn had a career-high 14 assists against the Detroit Pistons.
Houston Rockets (2011–2012)
During the 2011 NBA draft, Flynn was traded to the Houston Rockets.
Portland Trail Blazers (2012)
On March 15, 2012, Flynn was traded again, this time to the Portland Trail Blazers.
Melbourne Tigers (2012–2013)
After playing in the NBA, Flynn signed with the Melbourne Tigers in Australia in November 2012. In his first game, he played very well, helping the Tigers win. He continued to play strongly in the Australian league.
Flynn also played in the NBA Summer League for the Indiana Pacers and Los Angeles Clippers in 2013. After this, he did not return to the NBA.
Orlandina (2014–2015)
In September 2013, Flynn joined a team in China, the Sichuan Blue Whales. However, he left a month later due to an injury.
On August 30, 2014, Flynn signed with Orlandina Basket in Italy for the 2014–15 season. He played only two games before getting injured again and leaving the team in November 2014.
National Team Career
Jonny Flynn also played for the United States national basketball team.
FIBA Americas U18 Championship (2006)
In 2006, he was part of the USA Men's U18 National Team. They played in the FIBA Americas U18 Championship in San Antonio, Texas. Flynn averaged 8.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, 5.3 assists, and 1.8 steals per game. The team won the gold medal in this competition.
FIBA U19 World Championship (2007)
Flynn played for Team USA again in the 2007 FIBA U19 World Championships. The team won the silver medal. Flynn averaged 9.6 points per game in the nine games they played.
