Jonon Karimovna Bobokalonova (born September 13, 1929 – died June 17, 2005) was an important writer, literary critic, and academic from Tajikistan. She lived during the time of the Soviet Union. Her name is sometimes also written as Jonon Karim. She was known for her work on children's literature and later, on women's history.

About Jonon Bobokalonova

Jonon Bobokalonova was born in a village called Pulodon in Konibodom. Her family worked hard. She studied at the Dushanbe Pedagogical Institute and finished in 1949.

After graduating, she started teaching. She taught the Tajik language and literature at the Sadriddin Ayni High School in Dushanbe. At the same time, she also led a department at Piyanir, a magazine for children.

Her Studies and Teaching Career

Jonon continued her studies at the pedagogical institute from 1950 to 1951. In 1954, she returned to the Institute. This time, she taught Tajik literature, focusing on books for children.

In 1958, she became a member of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. That same year, she completed her special research paper. It was about the children's books written by Mirsaid Mirshakar. This was a big deal because it was the first time anyone had done such a detailed study on Tajik children's literature.

Later, she became the head of the Tajik literature department at the Pedagogical Institute. She earned a special degree called a doctorate in 1983. Two years later, she became a professor.

Her Impact on Literature

Jonon Bobokalonova was one of the first literary critics to focus on children's books from Tajikistan. A literary critic is someone who studies and writes about books. She also became interested in children's writers from other parts of the Soviet Union.

Later in her career, she started writing about the history of women. She joined the Union of Writers in Tajikistan in 1991. In 1995, she became a member of the Union of Journalists of Tajikistan. She received many awards during her life. In 1994, she was named a "Prominent Scientific Figure of the Republic of Tajikistan."

Jonon Bobokalonova wrote many books and articles. Her work helped people understand children's literature better. She also wrote about the important role of women in history and literature.
