Line(s)

Joo Koon MRT station (EW29) is a train station in Singapore. It is part of the MRT system. This station is above the ground. It is on the East West Line. You can find it in an area called Pioneer.

The station got its name from Joo Koon Village. This used to be a small Chinese village. In the 1960s, the area changed into a place with many factories. For a while, from 2009 to 2017, Joo Koon was the last stop on the western part of the East West Line. Then, Tuas Link MRT station was built. Even now, some trains still end their journey at Joo Koon.

Station History

Building the Station

Joo Koon station was built at the same time as Pioneer station. These stations were part of a big project. It was called the Boon Lay MRT Extension (BLE). The Land Transport Authority announced this project in December 2004. The main goal was to help people working in the Jurong Industrial Area travel faster.

Opening Day

The station officially opened on 28 February 2009. It opened together with Pioneer station. When it first opened, Joo Koon took over from Boon Lay as the last stop on the western side of the East West Line. This changed on 18 June 2017. That's when the Tuas West Extension opened. This new part of the line went all the way to Tuas Link.

Safety and Comfort Upgrades

Many older above-ground MRT stations, including Joo Koon, were built without special doors. These are called platform screen doors. They are important because they stop people from accidentally falling onto the train tracks.

Work to install these half-height platform screen doors started on 16 May 2011. By 26 July 2011, all the platform screen doors at Joo Koon station were installed. They began working to keep everyone safe.

To make the station more comfortable, especially on hot days, big fans were added. These are called high-volume low-speed fans. They started working on 19 August 2012. These fans help to keep the air moving and the station cooler.
