Joo Sae-hyuk (Hangul: 주세혁; born January 20, 1980) is a famous table tennis player from South Korea. He is well-known for his unique defensive playing style. As a singles player, he won a silver medal at the 2003 World Table Tennis Championships. He also earned bronze medals at the 2011 Table Tennis World Cup and the 2010 and 2014 Asian Games.
Joo Sae-hyuk has also been a key member of the South Korean National Team. He helped his team win silver medals at the 2002, 2006, 2010, and 2014 Asian Games. His team also won silver at the 2006 and 2008 World Championships, and at the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Early Life and Career Start
Joo Sae-hyuk was born in Seoul, South Korea, on January 20, 1980. He started playing table tennis when he was just 8 years old! He is 1.80 meters (about 5 feet 11 inches) tall and weighs 68 kilograms (about 150 pounds).
In 2001, he joined the national team. People quickly noticed him because of his exciting and strong defensive playing style.
Health and Determination
Between April and May 2012, Joo Sae-hyuk was diagnosed with a health condition. Despite this, he has continued to play table tennis at a very high level. His ability to keep performing well shows his incredible determination and spirit.
Joo Sae-hyuk's Unique Playing Style
Joo Sae-hyuk is famous for bringing back the defensive style of play in professional table tennis. He is one of the few top players in the world who mainly plays defensively. This means he often returns the ball with a lot of backspin, making it hard for his opponents to hit. Many people even call him the best defensive player ever!
But he's not just defensive. Joo Sae-hyuk also has a very powerful forehand shot. He uses this to attack quickly when he sees a chance. His long rallies and exciting way of playing have made him a favorite among fans. He is also one of the players who has helped challenge China's strong hold on the sport. Even as he gets older, he continues to play strongly in tournaments.
World Rankings
Since June 2003, the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) has consistently ranked Joo Sae-hyuk among the top 40 table tennis players in the world. This happened after he famously beat Ma Lin, a very strong player. By July 2006, he was regularly ranked in the ITTF's top 20. His highest ranking was number 5 in the world, which he reached in March 2012.
