Joppiesaus facts for kids
Joppiesaus is a yummy sauce from the Netherlands. It's a bit like mayonnaise but with a mild curry taste. You'll often find it in fast food places in the Netherlands and Belgium. You can also buy it in many grocery stores.
Where Did Joppiesaus Come From?
Joppiesaus was first made by a woman named Janine "Joppie" de Jager. She owned a snack bar called Annie's Snackbar. This snack bar was in a small Dutch village called Glanerbrug, right near the border with Germany. Joppie's special sauce was a mix of mayonnaise and her own secret spices.
Later, in 2002, a company called Elite Salades & Snacks started making the sauce. This company is located in Neede, another town in the Netherlands. They now legally own the name "Joppiesaus."
What's in Joppiesaus and How Does It Taste?
Joppiesaus is made with a base of vegetable oil mayonnaise. It also has onion and curry powder spices. The taste is similar to a mild curry mayonnaise. The sauce has a bright yellow color, like the spice turmeric. People often enjoy Joppiesaus with french fries and other deep-fried or fast food dishes.
