Jordan is a small, unincorporated community in Linn County, Oregon. This means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. It's located in the beautiful state of Oregon, in the United States.
Discovering Jordan, Oregon
Jordan is a quiet spot in the countryside. It's found in Linn County, which is part of the state of Oregon. You can find Jordan along Oregon Route 226. It is southeast of a town called Stayton. It's also about halfway between the towns of Scio and Lyons.
The Historic Jordan Bridge
A stream called Thomas Creek flows right through Jordan. This creek was once home to a special covered bridge called the Jordan Bridge. It was built in 1937.
This bridge was 90 feet (about 27 meters) long. It used a special design called a Howe truss. In 1985, the bridge was taken apart. Its wooden pieces were carefully moved to Stayton. There, it was put back together in Stayton's Pioneer Park. So, a piece of Jordan's history lives on in a nearby town!
A Place of Peace: The Monastery
Jordan was also once the location of a special building called the Monastery of Our Lady of Jordan. A monastery is a place where monks or nuns live and practice their religious beliefs. It was a peaceful and important part of the community's history.
