JordanCon is a fun convention that happens every year in Atlanta, Georgia, in North America. It's a big celebration of Robert Jordan's amazing fantasy book series, The Wheel of Time. People also enjoy other science fiction and fantasy stories there.
JordanCon is a special organization that doesn't make a profit. It was created to honor Robert Jordan, who wrote The Wheel of Time books.
History of JordanCon
How JordanCon Started
JordanCon was created by a person named Jennifer Liang. The idea for the first JordanCon was shared at another big convention called Dragon Con in 2007. Later, special flyers for JordanCon were first shown at Chattacon in 2008.
The very first JordanCon took place from April 17 to 19, 2009. It was held at the Alpharetta Embassy Suites in Alpharetta, Georgia. The main guest of honor was Harriet McDougal, who was Robert Jordan's wife. Other important guests included the writer Brandon Sanderson and publisher Tom Doherty.
More than 250 people came to this first event. They also raised over $3,000 for the Mayo Clinic, which is a medical research center. A special moment at the first JordanCon was hearing a recording of Robert Jordan reading from one of his books.
Looking Back at Past JordanCons
Since it started, JordanCon has happened every year. It brings together fans and creators from the world of science fiction and fantasy. Each year, the convention features different special guests. These guests often include authors, artists, and other people involved in fantasy and sci-fi.
For example, Brandon Sanderson, who finished The Wheel of Time series, has been a guest many times. Other famous authors like Patrick Rothfuss and Seanan McGuire have also attended. Talented artists such as Michael Whelan and Larry Elmore have shared their work at the convention.
JordanCon has been held at different places in the Atlanta area. These include the Crowne Plaza Ravinia and the Doubletree Hotel in Roswell, Georgia. Sometimes, JordanCon also hosts other regional conventions, like DeepSouthCon.
Each year, JordanCon has a special theme related to The Wheel of Time books. For instance, themes have included "Con of Valere" and "Tel'aCon'Rhiod, the Con of Dreams." These themes add extra fun to the events and activities.
The convention usually has many different activities for fans. These can include discussions with authors, art shows, costume contests, and games. It's a great place for fans to meet, share their love for the books, and learn more about the fantasy world.
