Jordan Landing is a huge area in West Jordan, Utah, where you can find shops, homes, and offices all in one place. It's like a small city within a city! This big development is located right next to the South Valley Regional Airport.
It covers about 500 acres, which is like 378 football fields! This area includes a lot of retail space for stores, over a thousand homes, and many office buildings. Jordan Landing is a very important part of West Jordan's growing economy.
It's one of the biggest "mixed-use" areas in the Intermountain West. This means it has a mix of different things: places to live, places to work, and places to shop and have fun. Jordan Landing was built on what used to be a big alfalfa farm, right next to Bangerter Highway.
When it first started in 1999, some people worried it would bring too much traffic to the area. They also thought it might cause the city to spread out too much. But many people who build new projects have seen how successful Jordan Landing is. They say it has helped the population grow and has encouraged them to build other big mixed-use areas nearby.
Jordan Landing used to have two very large stores called "superstores." One was a Walmart Supercenter, and the other was the first-ever Sears Grand. The Sears Grand store was later made smaller and became a regular Sears. It eventually closed in November 2018. After Sears closed, a new store called At Home opened in that space in early 2019.
The Walmart Supercenter at Jordan Landing was the first of its kind in the Salt Lake City area. It's still one of the busiest Walmarts in the United States, with about 80,000 shoppers visiting every week! Besides these big stores, Jordan Landing also has 12 sit-down restaurants and 13 fast-food places, many of which are well-known national chains.
Jordan Landing is also home to Utah's largest movie theater! It's a Cinemark theater with 24 screens, meaning you have lots of movie choices. (Another big theater, Larry H. Miller's megaplex in South Jordan, has more seats overall, but fewer screens.)
You'll also find the main offices for Mountain America Credit Union and Cyprus Credit Union here. Plus, there are many apartments, condominiums, and townhouses for people to live in. If you're visiting, there are two hotels, a Hampton Inn and a Residence Inn by Marriott, which opened in 2018.
