The Jordan River is a stream about 25 miles (40 kilometers) long in the northwestern part of Michigan. It flows into Lake Charlevoix, making it the biggest river that feeds into the lake. The river starts from natural springs in the Jordan River Valley, near Mancelona in Antrim County.
The Jordan River is special because it was the very first river in Michigan to be named a "Natural River." This means it's protected to keep its natural beauty and environment safe. People love the Jordan River for its amazing brook trout fishing. It's also a popular spot for scenic canoe trips. You can reach the river's starting points using many walking and ATV trails.

What is a Natural River?
Michigan's Natural Rivers Program helps protect rivers that are still wild and beautiful. When a river is part of this program, it means people want to keep it that way. This helps protect the river's fish, wildlife, and natural scenery. It also makes sure people can still enjoy activities like fishing and canoeing.
Animals and Plants of the Jordan River
The Jordan River is famous for its brook trout. These fish need clean, cold water to live, which the Jordan River provides. The river's healthy ecosystem supports many other animals too. You might see different kinds of birds, mammals, and insects that depend on the river for food and shelter. The riverbanks are home to various trees and plants, creating a green, natural habitat.
