Early Life and Training
Jordan Wright began gymnastics when he was only four years old. His interest in martial arts sparked after watching the popular anime show Dragon Ball Z. He started with Karate and then explored many other fighting styles, including Wushu Kung Fu, Muay Thai, and Boxing.
At 16, he took part in some Muay Thai practice matches and loved the experience. After finishing high school, Wright decided to become a full-time fighter. He moved to New Mexico to train at the famous Jackson-Wink MMA gym. He lived at the gym while preparing for his fighting career and attending the University of New Mexico.
Wright also competes in catch wrestling. In December 2023, he won second place in his weight class at the ACWA US Open national championships.
Mixed Martial Arts Career
Starting Out Strong
After college, Wright began his professional MMA career at age 23. In his first fight, he won in just 63 seconds by making his opponent submit. He went on to win his next seven fights, with none of them lasting longer than three minutes.
In 2018, Wright fought on the show Dana White's Contender Series. He originally lost the fight, but the result was later changed to a "no contest" because his opponent had broken a rule.
In January 2020, Wright fought for LFA 80 and won by TKO (technical knockout) in the second round.
Fighting in the UFC
Wright joined the UFC in August 2020. He won his first fight after a doctor stopped the match because of a cut on his opponent. This was an impressive start in the major league of MMA.
Over the next few years, Wright had several exciting fights in the UFC. In May 2021, he won a match against Jamie Pickett by TKO in the first round at UFC 262. In October 2022, his fight against Duško Todorović was so action-packed that it earned both fighters the Fight of the Night award, even though Wright lost the match.
After a few more tough fights, Wright left the UFC in early 2023.
Career After the UFC
Wright continued his fighting career after leaving the UFC. In March 2024, he fought in the main event for Fury FC 88 and won the fight by unanimous decision, which means all the judges agreed he was the winner.
