The Story of Jordans

The story of Jordans began a long time ago, in 1855. A farmer named William Herbert Jordan bought Holme Mills in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire, England. For many years, the mills were used to make flour.

Then, in 1972, two brothers, Bill and David Jordan, decided to try something new. They had found out about granola while in California. They started Jordans Cereals to make this new kind of breakfast food.

Their very first product was granola. A few years later, in 1981, Jordans also started making granola bars. These were perfect for a quick snack!

From 2002 to 2006, Jordans worked with another company called Yeo Valley Organic. They helped create "Green Machine" vending machines. These machines were placed in schools across the UK. They offered healthy foods and drinks to students and staff.

In April 2003, Jordans won a special award called the Queen's Awards for Enterprise. This award celebrates businesses that are very successful.

Bill Jordan, one of the brothers, was also given an important award. He became an MBE in 2005. This was to thank him for his great work in the food and drink industries.

Later, in 2007, a big company called Associated British Foods bought a part of Jordans. They bought more of the company in 2008. By 2013, Jordans was fully owned by Associated British Foods.

Jordans cares about nature, especially bees! The company has been working to help stop the fast drop in the number of bees. This problem is known as colony collapse disorder.

In May 2009, Jordans started a special project called Big Buzz. They worked with the British Beekeepers' Association and the Bumblebee Conservation Trust. These groups help protect bees and their homes.

Jordans in the Market

Jordans is one of the biggest cereal makers in the UK. It is the fourth largest, after other well-known brands like Kelloggs, Nestlé, and Weetabix.
