What is Ryvita?
Ryvita makes different kinds of baked snacks. They call them crispbreads, crackerbreads, and thins. Some of these have extra ingredients like dried fruit or seeds. Others use different types of flour, such as wheat.
Ryvita's Story
How Ryvita Started
The Ryvita company was created in 1925 by a person named John Edwin Garratt. At first, the company brought rye crispbreads from countries in Scandinavia. But in 1932, Ryvita started making its own products. This happened in Birmingham, England.
Building a New Factory
During the Second World War, the original Ryvita factory was destroyed. A new factory was built in 1949. This new place was in Poole, Dorset, which is a port city on the south coast of England. Much of the equipment in this factory is still from when it first opened after the war.
Who Owns Ryvita Now?
In 1949, a company called Associated British Foods (ABF) bought Ryvita. Today, Ryvita is part of a company called Jordans Dorset Ryvita. This company also makes breakfast cereals. They produce cereals under the names Jordans and Dorset Cereals.
Royal Recognition
Ryvita has been given special honors called royal warrants. These are given by the British Royal Family. Both King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II gave Ryvita these warrants. This means they were official suppliers of crispbreads to the Royal Household.
