Ryvita is a popular brand of crispbread from Great Britain. Crispbreads are thin, dry, and crunchy crackers, often made from rye grain. The Ryvita brand began in the 1920s. Since 1949, it has been owned by a large food company called Associated British Foods (ABF). Today, Ryvita products are made and sold by Jordans Dorset Ryvita, which is part of ABF.

About Ryvita

What Kinds of Ryvita Are There?

Ryvita makes many different kinds of baked products. They call these "crispbreads," "crackerbreads," and "thins." Some Ryvita products have extra ingredients like dried fruit or seeds. Others use different types of grain flours, such as wheat, along with rye.

How Ryvita Started

The Ryvita company was created in 1925 by a person named John Edwin Garratt. At first, the company brought rye crispbreads from countries in Scandinavia. But in 1932, Ryvita began making its own crispbreads in Birmingham, England.

Ryvita's Factory and Owners

During the Second World War, the original Ryvita factory was destroyed. A new factory was built in 1949 in Poole, a port town on the south coast of England. Much of the equipment in this factory is from when it first opened after the war.

In 1949, Associated British Foods (ABF) bought the Ryvita company. Ryvita is now part of a company called Jordans Dorset Ryvita. This company also makes other breakfast foods like Jordans cereals and Dorset Cereals.

Ryvita has also received special recognition from the British royal family. Both King George VI and Queen Elizabeth II gave Ryvita "royal warrants." This means they were official suppliers of crispbreads to the royal household.
