Jorge Luis Masvidal (born November 12, 1984) is a famous American professional boxer and former professional mixed martial artist. He is known by his nickname "Gamebred." Jorge competed in the Welterweight and Lightweight divisions. He fought professionally for 20 years, from 2003 until 2023. He competed in major organizations like the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Bellator, and Strikeforce. Jorge Masvidal holds the record for the fastest knockout in UFC history, which happened in just five seconds! He also won a special championship belt called the UFC "BMF" Championship.

Early Life and Training
Jorge Masvidal was born and grew up in Miami, Florida. His father came from Cuba, and his mother was from Peru. From a young age, Jorge was often involved in fights. He first became interested in wrestling in high school. However, he couldn't join the team because of his grades. After that, he started training in karate and mixed martial arts.
Mixed Martial Arts Career
Jorge Masvidal had a long and exciting career in mixed martial arts (MMA). He fought in many different organizations before joining the UFC.
Starting Out in MMA
Jorge Masvidal won his very first mixed martial arts fight on May 24, 2003. He won by knockout! He continued to fight in smaller events, building up his skills. He even defeated Joe Lauzon by technical knockout in the second round of a fight.
Fighting in Bellator
In April 2009, Masvidal joined Bellator, another big MMA organization. He won his first fight there quickly. However, he lost in the semifinals of a tournament to Toby Imada. This loss was a big surprise and was even called the "Submission of the Year" by many MMA news sites.
Moving to Strikeforce
After Bellator, Masvidal moved up to the welterweight division. He then signed with Strikeforce in 2011. He won several fights there, including against Billy Evangelista and K. J. Noons. He even fought for the Strikeforce Lightweight Championship but lost that fight.
Joining the UFC
In 2013, Strikeforce closed down, and Jorge Masvidal joined the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). This is the biggest MMA organization in the world.
Early UFC Fights
Masvidal won his first UFC fight against Tim Means. He then quickly fought again, winning against Michael Chiesa by submission. His third UFC fight was a tough one against Rustam Khabilov, which he lost. But this fight was so exciting that it earned him a "Fight of the Night" bonus award!
In 2014, Masvidal continued to win fights in the UFC. He defeated experienced fighters like Pat Healy, Daron Cruickshank, and James Krause.
Big Wins and Knockouts
In 2015, Masvidal moved back to the welterweight division. He had a great knockout win against Cezar Ferreira in the first round. This earned him a "Performance of the Night" bonus.
In 2017, Masvidal had a big win against Donald Cerrone. He won by TKO in the second round, earning another "Performance of the Night" bonus.
After a break, Masvidal returned in 2019 with some amazing performances. He faced Darren Till and won by knockout in the second round. This fight earned him both "Fight of the Night" and "Performance of the Night" awards.

Championship Fights and Retirement
In 2020, Masvidal stepped in on short notice to fight Kamaru Usman for the UFC Welterweight Championship. He lost that fight. They had a rematch in 2021, where Masvidal lost by knockout.
In 2022, Masvidal fought Colby Covington in a highly anticipated match, but he lost by decision. This fight also earned a "Fight of the Night" award.
On April 8, 2023, Jorge Masvidal faced Gilbert Burns at UFC 287. After losing this fight by decision, he announced his retirement from mixed martial arts.
Boxing Career
After retiring from MMA, Jorge Masvidal decided to try professional boxing. In 2024, he had a boxing match against Nate Diaz, who he had fought before in MMA. The fight took place on July 6, 2024, and Masvidal lost by decision.
