José Antonio Labordeta Subías (born March 10, 1935, in Zaragoza, Aragón, Spain – died September 19, 2010, in Zaragoza) was a famous Spanish singer, songwriter, poet, and writer. He was also a political activist. Many people called him "The most important Aragonese singer-songwriter."
He started singing to make his poems more popular. His songs became well-known and loved in Aragón. Songs like "Aragón" and "Canto a la Libertad" (which means Song for Freedom) were sung all over Spain.
José Antonio Labordeta also started a newspaper called Andalán. This newspaper was very important in the 1970s. From 2000 to 2008, he worked as a Deputy in the Spanish Congress. He represented Zaragoza for a political party called Chunta Aragonesista (which means Aragonese Union).
About José Antonio Labordeta
José Antonio Labordeta was born in Zaragoza, Aragón, in 1935. When he was 18 years old, his father passed away. After this, José Antonio went to live with his older brother, Miguel. Miguel was married and 14 years older than him.
In 1963, Labordeta married Juana de Grandes. They moved to a city called Teruel. Their two daughters, Ana and Ángela, were born while they lived there.
José Antonio Labordeta passed away on September 19, 2010, in Zaragoza. He was 75 years old and had been battling a long illness.
His Work as a Singer and Writer
José Antonio Labordeta was a very active artist. He released many music albums throughout his career. His first album, Los leñeros, came out in 1968. He continued to release music for decades, with his last album, Nueba cozina, coming out in 2007.
Besides music, Labordeta also wrote several books. He published his first book of poems, Sucede el pensamiento, in 1958. He continued writing poetry and other works, with his last known book, Método de Lectura, published in 1980. His work as a writer and singer helped share his ideas and love for Aragón.
