José Espinal's Playing Career
José Espinal and his twin brother Vinicio both started their football journeys at the Atalanta club in Italy. José then moved to different Italian football leagues from 2001 to 2005. He played in many matches, including important "promotion playoffs" in 2005, where he scored five goals. These playoffs help teams move up to a higher league.
Playing for Professional Teams
In 2005, José returned to professional football with Sanremese. The next season, he joined Novara. He didn't play as much as he wanted during the 2007–08 season. Because of this, he was sent to other clubs on "loan." This means he played for a different team for a short time while still belonging to Novara.
In August 2009, José Espinal moved to Cesena as part of a player swap. This means another player, Christian Jidayi, went to Novara. José played his first game in Serie B, a major Italian league, for Cesena in January 2010.
Later in January 2010, he was loaned again, this time to Giacomense. In July 2010, José signed a one-year contract with AS Eupen, a club in Belgium that had just moved up to a higher league. In December 2013, Espinal joined the Carlin's Boys team.
Playing for His Country
José Espinal was first called to play for the Dominican Republic in August 2011. This was for two qualifying matches for the 2014 World Cup. However, he did not play in those games.
He made his first official appearance for his country on August 30, 2014. He started in a friendly match against El Salvador, which his team lost.
Coaching Career
On June 24, 2025, José Espinal joined the Serie C club Giana Erminio. He became an assistant coach and team analyst, working alongside his twin brother Vinicio.
