Playing Career Highlights
José Espinal began his football journey alongside his twin brother, Edwards Vinicio Espinal, at the Italian club Atalanta.
Early Career in Italy
From 2001 to 2003, José played for clubs in Serie C1, which is a professional football league in Italy. After that, from 2003 to 2005, he played for teams in Serie D, a semi-professional league. In 2005, he helped his team get promoted by scoring 5 goals in 4 playoff matches.
Return to Professional Football
In 2005, José returned to professional football. He joined Sanremese in Serie C2, another Italian professional league. The next season, he signed with Novara in Serie C1.
During the 2007–08 season, José didn't play as much as he wanted. Because of this, he was loaned out to other clubs in the Lega Pro Seconda Divisione (a lower professional league) to get more playing time.
Moving to Cesena and Belgium
On August 31, 2009, José Espinal moved to Cesena. He played his first match in Serie B (a higher Italian league) for Cesena on January 5, 2010. A "loan" means a player temporarily moves to another team.
Later, on January 20, 2010, he was loaned to Giacomense. Then, on July 13, 2010, José signed a one-year contract with AS Eupen, a club in Belgium that had just been promoted to a higher league.
In December 2013, Espinal joined Carlin's Boys, continuing his career in Italy.
International Appearances
José Espinal was first called to play for the Dominican Republic in August 2011. This was for two matches in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers against El Salvador and Surinam. However, he did not play in those games.
He made his official debut for the national team on August 30, 2014. He started in a friendly match against El Salvador, which his team unfortunately lost.
