José Ignacio de Sanjinés Barriga (born in 1786 – died August 15, 1864) was an important Bolivian poet and a legislator. A legislator is someone who makes laws for a country.

José Ignacio de Sanjinés was born in a place called Chuquisaca. This was a very important time for Bolivia. He was chosen to be a delegate (a representative) for special meetings called the Deliberative and Constituent Assemblies. These meetings happened in 1825 and 1826.

During these assemblies, Bolivia became an independent republic for the first time. A republic is a country where citizens elect their leaders. Sanjinés was so important that he signed two very special documents: Bolivia's Declaration of Independence and its first Constitution. The Declaration of Independence announced that Bolivia was a free country, and the Constitution set up the rules for how the new country would be run.
