José Luis Pérez Caminero (born on November 8, 1967) is a Spanish former professional football player. He was a talented midfielder who could play in different parts of the field.
Many people consider Caminero one of the best Spanish footballers of the 1990s. He was great at dribbling, shooting, and was physically strong. He played 408 matches in La Liga, which is Spain's top football league, and scored 57 goals. Most of his career was spent playing for Valladolid and Atlético Madrid.
Caminero also played for the Spanish national team. He represented his country in the 1994 World Cup and Euro 1996. He even scored goals in both of these big tournaments!

Club Career Highlights
Caminero started his football journey at Real Madrid's youth academy. However, he didn't play for their main team. In 1989, he joined Real Valladolid. In his first season, 1989–90, he helped the team avoid being moved down to a lower league. He scored his first goal in the top league in December 1990 against Valencia CF.
Success with Atlético Madrid
The best part of Caminero's career began in 1993. He moved to Atlético Madrid, a famous team from his hometown. He became a very important player for them.
In the 1995–96 season, Caminero helped Atlético Madrid win a historic "double." This means they won both the La Liga title and the Copa del Rey (Spain's main cup competition) in the same year! He scored nine goals in 37 league games that season.
Because of his amazing performance, Caminero was named the Spanish Footballer of the Year in 1996. He received awards from both the El País newspaper and Don Balón magazine. He was the only Atlético player to win both awards in the same year. The next season, 1996–97, he scored a career-high 14 goals.
Later Career and Retirement
When he was 30 years old, Caminero returned to play for Real Valladolid. He continued playing until 2004. In his final years, he showed how versatile he was by playing in a different position called sweeper. This role is usually played by a defender who can also help with attacks.
After he stopped playing, Caminero became a director of football for Real Valladolid. This job involves managing the team's players and transfers. He left this role in 2008. In 2011, he returned to Atlético Madrid in a similar management position. Seven years later, he joined Málaga CF as their director of football.
International Career for Spain
José Luis Caminero made his first appearance for the Spanish national team on September 8, 1993. It was a friendly match against Chile in Alicante, which Spain won 2–0.
He played for Spain in the 1994 FIFA World Cup held in the United States. He was Spain's top scorer in that tournament, scoring three goals. Two of these goals came in a 3–1 group stage victory against Bolivia.
Caminero also represented Spain in UEFA Euro 1996 in England. In that tournament, he scored a late goal against France to tie the game.
Overall, Caminero scored eight goals in 21 games for the national team. His last game for Spain was against England in Euro '96, which Spain lost in a penalty shootout.
