José Luis Pérez Caminero (born on November 8, 1967) is a Spanish former professional footballer. He was a talented midfielder who could play in different parts of the midfield. Many people think he was one of the best Spanish footballers in the 1990s.
Caminero played in 408 matches in La Liga, which is Spain's top football league. He scored 57 goals during his 14 seasons there. He was known for his great skills, including dribbling, shooting, and being physically strong. Most of his career was spent playing for Valladolid and Atlético Madrid. He also played for the Spanish national team in the 1994 World Cup and Euro 1996, scoring goals in both big tournaments.

Caminero's Club Journey
Early Career at Valladolid
Caminero started his football journey in the youth teams of Real Madrid. However, he did not play for their main team. In the 1989–90 season, he joined Real Valladolid. He helped his team avoid being moved down to a lower league. Caminero scored his first goal in La Liga on December 16, 1990. This goal helped Valladolid win 3–1 against Valencia CF at home.
Success with Atlético Madrid
The best part of Caminero's career began in the 1993–94 season when he moved to Atlético Madrid. He became a very important player for the team. In the 1995–96 season, Atlético Madrid achieved something amazing. They won both the La Liga title and the Copa del Rey (Spanish Cup) in the same year. This is called a "double." Caminero played in 37 league games that season and scored nine goals.
Because of his great performance, Caminero received two special awards at the end of that season. He was named the Spanish Footballer of the Year by the newspaper El País and by the famous football magazine Don Balón. He was the only Atlético Madrid player to win both awards in the same year. In the next season, he scored even more goals, reaching a career-high of 14 goals.
Returning to Valladolid and Retirement
After his successful time at Atlético Madrid, Caminero returned to Real Valladolid when he was 30 years old. He continued to play for them until 2004. He retired from playing football after Valladolid was moved down from the top league in the 2003–04 season.
Life After Playing Football
After retiring as a player, Caminero became a director of football for Real Valladolid. This role involves helping manage the club's football operations, like signing new players. He left this job after the 2007–08 season.
In May 2011, Caminero returned to Atlético Madrid to work as a director there. Seven years later, he joined Málaga CF in a similar role.
Caminero's International Career
Playing for Spain
José Luis Caminero made his first appearance for the Spanish national team on September 8, 1993. This was in a friendly match against Chile in Alicante, which Spain won 2–0.
He represented Spain in the 1994 FIFA World Cup held in the United States. Caminero was Spain's top scorer in that tournament, scoring three goals. He scored two goals in a 3–1 group stage victory against Bolivia. He also played for Spain in UEFA Euro 1996 in England. In that tournament, he scored a late goal against France to make the score 1–1.
Caminero scored a total of eight goals in 21 matches for Spain. His last game for the national team was against England in Euro '96. Spain lost that match after a penalty shootout.
