José María Albiñana (born October 13, 1883 – died 1936) was a Spanish doctor, writer, and politician. He was born in Enguera, a town in Valencia, Spain.

He studied medicine and became a specialist in mental health. He also earned degrees in law and philosophy. Later, he helped start a political party called the Partido Nacionalista Español.

José María Albiñana's Medical Career

José María Albiñana was a respected doctor. He was a member of the Royal National Academy of Medicine in Spain. He even won an award for his ideas on medical philosophy.

He started a newspaper called La Sanidad Civil. This newspaper aimed to support the rights of doctors and medical workers. The government even helped fund it. Albiñana began writing books and articles about medicine and philosophy when he was in his early 20s.

Time in Mexico

In the 1920s, Albiñana moved to Mexico. He opened his own clinic in Mexico's capital. He learned a lot about the culture and way of life there. He also gave many talks and wrote new books.

He wrote three books about his own life during this time. These were Sol de Levante, Aventuras Tropicales. En busca del oro verde, and Bajo el cielo mejicano.

Mexico was going through a tough time with lots of political problems. Many leaders were killed, and there were farmer revolts. Because of this unrest, people were very suspicious of foreigners. Albiñana was eventually asked to leave Mexico.

Becoming a Delegate in Burgos

After leaving Mexico, Albiñana returned to Spain. He settled in Burgos. In 1934, he was chosen to represent Burgos as a delegate. He was re-elected in 1936.

Even though his Spanish accent had changed a bit from his time in Mexico, he earned the trust of the people. He worked hard to help the neighborhoods in Burgos. He answered their questions and worked on important projects.

He helped bring many improvements to Burgos. This included legal work for the Burgos Water Company. He also helped install telephones in Villarcayo and Medina de Pomar. He played a key role in creating and building Burgos Airport. He found important funding to help the region grow and develop.

His Death

José María Albiñana was killed in 1936. This happened during a time of great conflict in Spain. After the Nationalist side won the Spanish Civil War, streets in several towns were named after him. Many of these were in his home region of Valencia.
