José Marín Cañas worked in many different jobs throughout his life. One of his most important roles was as a journalist. He even broadcasted exciting football (soccer) matches on the radio!

His career as a writer began in 1928. Right away, he started winning awards! He won prizes for a short story and for a special kind of news report called a chronicle.

Famous Books He Wrote

José Marín Cañas wrote several novels. One of them was called El infierno verde (The Green Hell). This book was about the Chaco War, a conflict between Bolivia and Paraguay.

Another important novel he wrote was Pedro Arnáez. This book touched on the 1932 peasant uprising in El Salvador, which was a difficult time in that country's history.

Besides writing books, he also worked as the director of a newspaper called La Hora. José Marín Cañas passed away in 1980.
