José María Ortega Cano (born 23 December 1953) is a famous Spanish bullfighter. He was married to the well-known Spanish singer Rocío Jurado. Together, they adopted two children from Colombia, a boy and a girl.

Early Life and Bullfighting Career
José Ortega Cano was born on December 23, 1953, in Cartagena, Spain. He began his career as a bullfighter in 1973. His first important bullfight took place in Madrid.
In 1974, he officially became a full bullfighter. This special ceremony is called an alternativa. It happened on October 12, 1974, in Zaragoza. Another famous bullfighter, José Mari Manzanares, was his "godfather" for this event.
Success in the Bullring
Ortega Cano had a very successful year in 1986. He performed well in many bullrings across Spain. His skills and bravery made him a popular figure in the world of bullfighting.
In 1995, he married Rocío Jurado, who was a very famous singer in Spain.
Retirement and Comebacks
José Ortega Cano first retired from bullfighting in 1998. However, he decided to return to the bullring in 2001. He put on his special bullfighter outfit, called the traje de luces, for another try. This comeback was not as successful as his earlier career.
He retired again in 2004 to spend time with his wife, Rocío Jurado, who was very ill. After her passing in 2006, he entered the bullring one final time in 2007. This last performance was in Olivenza.
Life Outside the Bullring
José Ortega Cano has also appeared on television. He was a contestant on the Spanish version of Dancing with the Stars. The show is called Mira quién baila in Spain. He was known for not being a very good dancer on the show.
Family Life
On September 27, 2018, José Ortega Cano married Ana María Aldón. They had been partners since 2012. Their wedding was a civil ceremony held in Zaragoza.
In late 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic in Spain, Ortega Cano, his wife, and his daughter all tested positive for COVID-19. They recovered from the illness a few weeks later.
Public Appearances
In 2016, a Spanish satirical magazine called Mongolia published a cartoon of José Ortega Cano. The cartoon showed him in a funny way. Ortega Cano felt this cartoon was unfair and sued the magazine. A court later ruled in his favor, and he was awarded money for damages. This decision was confirmed by the Spanish Supreme Court in 2020.
