José Solchaga Zala (born in Aberin, Navarre in 1881 – died in 1953) was a Spanish general. He was a key military leader for the Nationalists during the Spanish Civil War. This was a major conflict in Spain from 1936 to 1939.

A Military Career Begins

José Solchaga was a professional officer in the Spanish Army. He came from the region of Navarre in northern Spain. In 1936, he joined a movement that tried to take control from the existing government, known as the Republican government. This event led to the start of the Spanish Civil War.

Leading Troops in the North

General Solchaga played an important role in the early parts of the war. He led troops from Navarre in several campaigns in northern Spain.

Capturing Key Areas

In August 1936, his forces took control of Irún. This was a very important victory because it cut off the northern Republican areas from the French border. It also helped them capture San Sebastián a month later.

Final Campaigns

Towards the end of the war, General Solchaga continued to lead important forces. In December 1938, he commanded the Navarrese Army Corps during the Catalonia Offensive. This was a major push into the region of Catalonia. Finally, in March 1939, he was part of the final offensive that ended the war.
