Jose Lezcano was born on April 20, 1985, in Panama. He is a professional jockey who rides Thoroughbred racehorses in the United States. Jose races in New York during the warmer months. In winter, he moves to Florida to continue riding. A big moment in his career was in 2008 when he won a major race called the Breeders' Cup.

Jose's Racing Career

Jose Lezcano learned to be a jockey at the Laffit Pincay Jockey School in Panama. He moved to the U.S. in January 2003 to start his racing career. His first win was in March 2004 at Gulfstream Park, riding a horse named Cloudy Gray. In 2005, he rode at Monmouth Park and did very well, finishing fifth among all jockeys there.

First Breeders' Cup Win

In 2008, Jose Lezcano had his first chance to ride in the Breeders' Cup. This is a series of very important horse races. He rode a horse named Maram in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf race. They won! This was also the first Breeders' Cup win for the horse's trainer, Chad Brown, and its owners.

Top Races and Horses

Jose has ridden many famous horses in big races. In 2009, he rode horses like Eaton's Gift, Not for Silver, and Cosmonaut to victory in important races. He is known for being a skilled rider.

Becoming a Leading Jockey

The year 2008 was a huge success for Jose. He became the top jockey at Monmouth Park Racetrack, winning 141 races. He then continued his winning streak at the Meadowlands Racetrack in the fall. In 2009, he was also the leading jockey at Gulfstream Park, with 71 wins.

On June 22, 2008, Jose Lezcano tied a record at Monmouth Park. He won six races in one day, which is a very impressive achievement! One of those wins was with Coli Bear in the Blue Sparkler Stakes.

Riding in the Triple Crown

Jose has also ridden in the famous Triple Crown races. These are three of the most important races for young horses. In 2006, he rode Deputy Glitters in the Kentucky Derby. In 2010, he finished second in the 2010 Kentucky Derby with a horse named Ice Box.

He won the riding title at The Meadowlands in 2006. He then went on to win the riding title at Tampa Bay Downs in Florida. In the same season, he won the G3 Tampa Bay Derby with Deputy Glitters.

Another Breeders' Cup Victory

In 2013, Jose had another big Breeders' Cup win. He rode a famous horse named Wise Dan in the Breeders' Cup Mile race. Jose stepped in to ride Wise Dan because the horse's usual jockey was hurt. They won the race, showing Jose's ability to ride top horses even on short notice.
