Josemi's Football Journey
Josemi Castañeda was born in Suances, a town in Cantabria, Spain. He started his football journey at a young age.
Starting Young at Racing Santander
Josemi joined the youth academy of Racing de Santander in 2008. Before that, he played for a team called SD Amistad. He made his first senior appearance for Racing's reserve team, Rayo Cantabria, on August 21, 2016. In that game, they won 5–1 at home against Selaya FC in the Tercera División league.
Josemi scored his first goal as a senior player on October 12, 2016. It was the opening goal in a game they lost 3–4 against CF Vimenor. He played his first match for the main Racing Santander team on November 20, 2016. He came into the game as a substitute during the second half. This match was a 0–0 draw against Arandina CF in the Segunda División B league.
Moving to Las Palmas
On July 10, 2017, Josemi signed a contract with UD Las Palmas. He was then assigned to their B team, UD Las Palmas Atlético, which also played in the third division. On June 17, 2020, he made his professional debut for the main UD Las Palmas team. He came on as a substitute in a Segunda División game, which they won 1–0 against UD Almería.
Playing in Romania
On September 1, 2020, Josemi agreed to a three-year contract with FC Viitorul Constanța. This club plays in the Liga I, which is Romania's top football league.
Back in Spain
After playing in Romania, Josemi returned to Spain. He joined Gimnástica de Torrelavega in 2022. He played for them until 2024. Currently, he plays for SD Logroñés.
