His Early Life and Education
Joseph Ruddell was born in a place called Clonroot on November 9, 1866. He went to several universities to get his education. He studied at the Royal University of Ireland, Trinity College, Dublin, and Queen's University Belfast. These schools helped him prepare for his future career.
His Career as a Teacher and Priest
Before becoming a priest, Joseph Ruddell was a maths teacher. He taught at Rathmines School and later at Drogheda Grammar School. Teaching is a very important job, and he helped many students learn about numbers and problem-solving.
Later, he decided to join the church. He became a deacon in 1893 and then a full priest in 1894. He worked as a curate, which is like an assistant priest, in places like Muckno and Clones. After that, he became the main priest, or incumbent, first at Castle Archdale and then back in Clones. His long service led him to become the Archdeacon of Clogher.
