Joseph Ruskin (born Joseph Richard Schlafman) was an American actor. He was known for playing many different kinds of characters in movies and TV shows. He was born on April 14, 1924, and passed away on December 28, 2013.

Early Life and Acting Start
Joseph Ruskin was born in Haverhill, Massachusetts. After finishing high school in Cleveland, he joined the U.S. Navy. Later, he studied acting at Carnegie Mellon University. He began his acting career at the Pittsburgh Playhouse. Even though he became famous for TV and movies, he always kept acting on stage too.
His Acting Career
Joseph Ruskin appeared in many popular TV shows. He was in an episode of The Outer Limits. He also played a role in The Time Tunnel. Ruskin was in two different two-part episodes of Mission: Impossible.
He had a secret voice role in The Twilight Zone episode "To Serve Man". He voiced the Kanamits, who were alien characters. Before that, he played a genie in another Twilight Zone episode called "The Man in the Bottle". Ruskin also appeared in the comedy show Hogan's Heroes. In 1960, he was in the TV western series Lawman. He also appeared in the show Kentucky Jones in 1964.
Ruskin also acted in several movies. Some of his film roles include The Magnificent Seven (1960) and Prizzi's Honor (1985). He was also in Indecent Proposal (1993) and Smokin' Aces (2006).

Star Trek: The Original Series
In Star Trek: The Original Series, Ruskin played a character named Galt. This was in the episode "The Gamesters of Triskelion". It first aired on January 5, 1968.
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine
He appeared in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine as a Klingon named Tumek. He was in two episodes: "The House of Quark" and "Looking for par'Mach in All the Wrong Places". He also played a Cardassian informant in the episode "Improbable Cause".
Star Trek Films and Other Series
Ruskin was in one Star Trek movie, Star Trek: Insurrection. He played a Son'a officer in the film. He also appeared in Star Trek: Voyager. In the episode "Gravity", he played a Vulcan master. His last Star Trek role was in Star Trek: Enterprise. He played a Suliban doctor in the first episode, "Broken Bow".
Helping Other Actors
Joseph Ruskin cared about his fellow actors. He became a board member of the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) in 1976. He served on the board for many years, until 1999. He also became a leader for Actors' Equity Association in 1979. This group helps stage actors. For his hard work, he received special awards from these groups.
His Passing
Joseph Ruskin passed away on December 28, 2013. He died at a hospital in Santa Monica, California.
