Josephine Wapakabulo, also known as Josephine Wapakabulo Thomas, is a talented electrical engineer and a successful business executive. She was the very first chief executive officer (CEO) of the Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC). She started this important role in June 2016. Josephine left her position as UNOC CEO on August 13, 2019. She decided to focus on her family and explore new opportunities.

Early Life and Education
Josephine Wapakabulo was born in 1976 in Arusha, Tanzania. Her parents are Angelina Wapakhabulo and the late James Wapakhabulo. She moved to the United Kingdom for her studies.
Josephine attended Loughborough University in the UK. There, she studied electronic and electrical engineering. She earned three degrees from this university:
- A Bachelor of Engineering (BEng)
- A Master of Science (MSc)
- A Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)
Later, she also completed an Executive MBA from INSEAD Business School in France. This shows her dedication to both engineering and business.
Her Professional Journey
Josephine Wapakabulo has had a long and impressive career. She started working in 2000.
- Early Career (2000-2006):
* From 2000 to 2002, she was a Leadership Trainee in Coventry, United Kingdom. * From 2002 to 2006, she worked as a research associate at LSC Group Consulting in Lichfield, UK.
- Working at Rolls-Royce (2006-2014):
* In 2006, Josephine joined Rolls-Royce in Derby, UK. She was a Business Process & Information Engineering Specialist until 2011. * From 2011 to 2014, she worked in the Berlin Area, Germany. She was a Quality Executive and Engineering Chief of Quality and Continuous Improvement for Rolls-Royce.
- Return to Africa (2014-Present):
* Between 2014 and 2015, she served as the Chief Operating Officer at The Walk Free Foundation in Perth, Australia. * In 2015, she returned to her home country, Uganda. She worked as a Business Consultant in Kampala until 2016. * In June 2016, the Board of UNOC chose her as their CEO. She officially started this role on August 1, 2016. * She brought over 16 years of experience to UNOC. This included leadership, team building, and project management skills. * Today, Josephine Wapakabulo is the founder and managing director of TIG Africa.
