Joshua Addo-Carr (born 28 July 1995), often called "The Foxx", is an Indigenous Australian professional rugby league player. He plays as a winger for the Parramatta Eels in the National Rugby League (NRL) and represents Australia internationally. Josh is known for being one of the fastest players in the NRL.

He has won two NRL premierships with the Melbourne Storm in 2017 and 2020. He also helped Australia win the 2021 Rugby League World Cup. Before joining the Eels, he played for the Wests Tigers, Melbourne Storm, and the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs. He has also played for the Indigenous All Stars and New South Wales in the State of Origin.

Early Life and Rugby Beginnings

Josh Addo-Carr was born in Blacktown, New South Wales, Australia. He is from the Aboriginal communities of the Gunggandji, Birrbay, and Wiradjuri people.

He started playing rugby league at just three years old for the Doonside Roos. Later, his family moved to Earlwood, New South Wales, where he played for the Earlwood Saints.

As a teenager, Josh went to Matraville Sports High School. He played junior rugby league for the La Perouse Panthers and Moore Park. In 2012, he played for the South Sydney Rabbitohs' SG Ball team. He then joined the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks. Josh Addo-Carr's grandfather was the famous Australian boxer, Wally Carr.

Playing Career Highlights

Early Career with Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks

In 2014 and 2015, Josh played for the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks' National Youth Competition team. He was a great scorer, getting 28 tries in 44 games. In September 2015, he signed a contract to play for the Wests Tigers starting in 2016.

Josh made his NRL debut for the Wests Tigers in Round 7 against the Melbourne Storm. He even scored a try in his very first game! Interestingly, another player, Suliasi Vunivalu, also made his debut for the Storm in the same match and scored a try. They would later become wing partners at the Melbourne Storm.

In June, Josh signed a three-year contract to join the Melbourne Storm starting in 2017. Later that year, he was named on the wing in the 2016 Intrust Super Premiership NSW Team of the Year.

2017–2021: Success with Melbourne Storm

Josh started playing for the Melbourne Storm in Round 1 of the 2017 season. In Round 3, he scored his first try for the Storm, helping them win a close game against the Brisbane Broncos. In May, he played for City Origin against Country Origin.

In Round 25, Josh scored his first "hat-trick" (three tries in one game) against the South Sydney Rabbitohs. In August 2017, he extended his contract with Melbourne until the end of the 2021 season. He then played in the 2017 NRL Grand Final and scored two tries, helping the Storm win the championship!

State of Origin and International Play

In 2018, Josh was chosen to play for New South Wales in the 2018 State of Origin series. He played in all three games, helping New South Wales win their first Origin shield since 2014. In the 2018 NRL Grand Final, he scored an amazing 85-meter try, finishing the year with 18 tries in 25 games.

In 2019, Josh played in all three State of Origin games again, as New South Wales won the series 2–1. For his club, Melbourne, he played 23 games and scored 16 tries, helping them finish as minor premiers. In October 2019, Josh made his international debut for the Australian Kangaroos.

In 2020, Josh won another NRL Grand Final with Melbourne, scoring 16 tries in 21 games. He also played for New South Wales in the 2020 State of Origin series, scoring two tries in Game 1 and two more in Game 2. In December 2020, he signed a four-year deal to join the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs starting in 2022.

Record-Breaking Performance

In Round 9 of the 2021 NRL season, Josh Addo-Carr had an incredible game, scoring six tries in Melbourne's 50–0 win. This set a new club record for the Melbourne Storm. He was the first player in Australia in 71 years to score six tries in a single game!

He was selected for the 2021 State of Origin series and scored two tries in Game 2. Josh played 22 games for Melbourne in 2021, scoring 23 tries. The team won 19 matches in a row and claimed the Minor Premiership.

2022–2024: Time with Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs

In Round 1 of the 2022 NRL season, Josh made his debut for Canterbury. In Round 6, he scored his first try for the Bulldogs. In Round 8, he even captained the team and scored two tries in a surprising win against the Sydney Roosters.

Despite his good form, Josh was not selected for the New South Wales State of Origin team in 2022. However, he continued to play well for Canterbury, scoring hat-tricks in Round 14 and Round 19.

Rugby League World Cup Success

Josh Addo-Carr was chosen for the Australian Kangaroos squad for the 2021 Rugby League World Cup in England. He proved many people wrong with his amazing performances.

He scored two tries against Fiji, including a spectacular 98-meter run. He scored four tries against Scotland, and then an incredible five tries in the quarter-final against Lebanon! In the semi-final against New Zealand, he scored another try, equaling the World Cup record for most tries in one tournament.

Josh played for Australia in their victory over Samoa in the 2021 Rugby League World Cup final. He was also named in the 2021 RLWC Team of the Tournament.

In 2023, Josh scored two tries in Round 3 against the Wests Tigers. He faced a leg injury in Round 6 but returned in Round 12, scoring a try. He was selected for Game 1 of the 2023 State of Origin series. In Round 27, he scored another hat-trick for Canterbury.

In 2024, Josh suffered a shoulder injury in Round 1. He scored a hat-trick in Round 6 against his former club, Melbourne. He was not selected for the 2024 State of Origin series. In Round 13, he scored two tries but then suffered a hamstring injury, ruling him out for several weeks.

In November 2024, Josh Addo-Carr signed a two-year deal to join the Parramatta Eels.

2025: Joining Parramatta Eels

Following his time with the Bulldogs, Josh Addo-Carr signed a two-year contract to play for the Parramatta Eels, starting in 2025.
