Joshua Aloiye Okogie (/əˈkɡi/ ə-KOH-ghee; born 1 September 1998) is a Nigerian-American professional basketball player. He last played for the Charlotte Hornets in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Josh played college basketball for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. He was chosen 20th in the 2018 NBA draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves. He played for the Timberwolves for four seasons. In 2022, he joined the Phoenix Suns. Josh also plays for the Nigerian national team.

Early Life and Basketball Beginnings

Josh Okogie moved to the United States with his family when he was three years old. They settled in Snellville, Georgia. This is where Josh started playing basketball. He played for Shiloh High School.

Josh Okogie is a shooting guard who stands 6 feet 4 inches tall. He joined Georgia Tech for college. In his first year, he played really well. He scored about 16 points and got over 5 rebounds per game. Because of his great performance, he was named to the ACC All-Freshman Team.

In his second year, Josh continued to shine. He led Georgia Tech in scoring. He averaged over 18 points per game. He was also chosen for the 2017–18 All-ACC Third Team. After this season, he decided to enter the 2018 NBA draft. This meant he wanted to become a professional player.

Professional Basketball Career

Playing for the Minnesota Timberwolves (2018–2022)

On June 21, 2018, the Minnesota Timberwolves picked Josh Okogie. He was the 20th player chosen in the 2018 NBA draft. Soon after, he signed his first contract with the team. He also played in the 2018 NBA Summer League.

When another player, Jimmy Butler, was traded, Josh got a chance to start games. He played nearly 22 minutes per game that season. In January 2019, he was picked for the World Team. This was for the 2019 Rising Stars Challenge, a game for top young players.

Time with the Phoenix Suns (2022–2024)

On July 2, 2022, Josh Okogie signed with the Phoenix Suns. He had a fantastic game on December 7. He scored a career-high 28 points against the Boston Celtics. This was his best scoring game ever.

He re-signed with the Suns on July 13, 2024.

Joining the Charlotte Hornets (2025)

On January 15, 2025, Josh Okogie was traded to the Charlotte Hornets. He moved to the Hornets along with some future draft picks. In return, the Suns received Nick Richards and a future draft pick.

Josh played his first game for the Hornets five days later, on January 20. He helped his new team win against the Dallas Mavericks. In his third game with the Hornets, on January 24, he had a "double-double." This means he got at least 10 points and 10 rebounds in one game. He scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Playing for His Country

Josh Okogie also plays for the Nigerian national basketball team. He represented his country in the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
