José Carlos Adán Arias, born on July 22, 1967, in Vigo, is a retired Spanish long-distance runner. He was especially good at cross-country running, which is a type of running race held over natural terrain like dirt, grass, and hills. He helped his team win bronze medals twice at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships. His best individual finish in this competition was 18th place in 1995. He competed in the World Cross Country Championships twelve times between 1986 and 2002.

José Carlos also represented Spain at the 1993 World Championships in Athletics, where he finished 16th in the 10,000 metres race. He also competed in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics in the 10,000 metres. He raced in the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships twice, in 1997 and 2001.

European Running Success

Adán performed very well at the European Cross Country Championships. He finished in the top seven three times. His best finish was fourth place in 1994. He also helped his team win silver medals at this competition in 1994 and 2000. In 2001, he and his teammate Antonio David Jiménez helped Spain win the team title at the 2001 European Cross Country Championships.

In 1994, he competed at the 1994 European Athletics Championships. This was his only time at this event, and he finished sixth in the 5000 metres race.

Other Achievements

In 1993, José Carlos came third for Spain in the 10,000 metres at the European Cup. He also won a silver medal in the 5000 metres at the 1990 Ibero-American Championships in Athletics. He was also the winner of the third Iberian 10,000 Metres Championships.
