José Sazatornil Buendía (born August 13, 1925 – died July 23, 2015) was a very popular Spanish actor. He appeared in many movies and plays during his long career. He started acting in 1946 and was often known by his nickname, "Saza."

Early Life and Theatre Beginnings
José Sazatornil was born in Barcelona, Spain, on August 13, 1925. His father owned a small shop in the city. José studied at the Brothers of the Christian Doctrine School in his hometown.
He started his acting career in the theatre when he was just thirteen years old. For seven years, he performed in a different play almost every Sunday. He acted in about 280 comedies during this time! While acting, he also helped out in his family's shop.
In 1946, José Sazatornil made his official debut at the Victoria Theatre in Barcelona. Later, he joined the famous theatre company of Paco Martínez Soria.
Moving to Film and TV
José Sazatornil first appeared in a movie in 1953. It was a Spanish fantasy film directed by Javier Setó. After that, he acted in more than 110 films! Some of his most well-known movies include La escopeta nacional, directed by Luis García Berlanga, and Amanece, que no es poco, directed by José Luis Cuerda.
In 1957, José Sazatornil started his very own theatre company. This was a big step in his career. In 1974, he starred in his own TV series called Los Maniáticos, which aired on TVE.
Awards and Later Years
José Sazatornil received many awards throughout his career. One of his biggest achievements was winning the Goya Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1989. He won it for his role in the movie Espérame en el cielo, directed by Antonio Mercero. He was a much-loved comedian and actor, known for his unique style.
In November 2013, it was announced that he was suffering from Alzheimer's disease. José Sazatornil passed away peacefully in Madrid on July 23, 2015, at the age of 89.
One of his most memorable performances was playing Don Mendo in the play "La revenge on Don Mendo." This role was traditionally played by top Spanish actors like Fernando Fernán Gómez.
