Joyva is a company that makes delicious chocolate and other sweet treats. It is located in Brooklyn, New York. The company was started in 1907 by Nathan Radutzky. He had just moved from Kyiv, Ukraine. Nathan wanted to create a company that made and sold sesame-based candy called halvah.
Joyva is still owned by the same family today. It continues to make candy from its Brooklyn location. Over the years, the company began making many different kinds of candies. These include treats made with sesame, marshmallow, and jelly. Joyva candies are also kosher parve. This means they are made without meat or dairy products. You can often find them in kosher delis or stores in Jewish neighborhoods.
Today, Joyva is run by Richard Radutzky and Sandy Wiener. They are cousins and part of the founding family.
Joyva's Sweet Treats
Joyva makes many different kinds of candies. But its most famous product is halvah. Halvah is a sweet, dense candy made from ground sesame seeds. It's a bit like a crumbly fudge. Joyva sells halvah in different forms. You can find halvah bars, halvah in cans, and even big loaves of halvah with nuts. Halvah can be plain (vanilla flavor), covered in chocolate, or have chocolate mixed in (called marble halvah).
Besides halvah, Joyva also makes other candies. These often use jelly, marshmallow, or sesame. Their jelly candies are covered in chocolate. They come in raspberry or orange flavors and are shaped like rings or bars. Joyva also makes "Sesame Crunch." This candy is made from crunchy, brittle sesame seeds. They also have different chocolate-covered marshmallow treats, like Marshmallow Twists.
Joyva is the biggest maker of halvah in the United States.
