Ju-Lee Kim (김주리, born in 1969) is a brilliant mathematician from South Korea. She works as a professor of mathematics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). MIT is a very famous university in the United States. Her special area of math is called representation theory of p-adic groups. This part of math helps us understand complex number systems and shapes.

Ju-Lee Kim's Journey in Math
Early Studies and Degrees
Ju-Lee Kim started her higher education at KAIST in South Korea. She finished her first university degree there in 1991. After that, she moved to the United States to continue her studies.
She earned her Ph.D. (a very advanced degree) from Yale University in 1997. At Yale, she worked with a famous math professor named Roger Howe. Another important mentor for her at Yale was Ilya Piatetski-Shapiro.
Teaching and Research Career
After finishing her Ph.D., Dr. Kim did more research. She worked at the Institute for Advanced Study and the École Normale Supérieure. These are both very important places for advanced studies.
In 1998, she became an assistant professor at the University of Michigan. Later, in 2002, she joined the faculty at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Finally, in 2007, she moved to MIT, where she is now a professor.
Awards and Recognition
In 2015, Ju-Lee Kim received a special honor. She was chosen as a fellow of the American Mathematical Society. This award recognized her important work in math. It also honored her service to the field of mathematics.
