Juan de Camargo y Angulo y Pasquer (1663–1733) was an important person in Spain during the 1700s. He served as a Bishop of Pamplona and later became the Grand Inquisitor of Spain.

Who Was Juan de Camargo?

Juan de Camargo was born in a town called Ágreda on June 30, 1663. He grew up to become a leader in the Roman Catholic Church.

His Roles in the Church

Juan de Camargo became the Bishop of Pamplona on October 5, 1716. A bishop is a high-ranking leader in the Christian church. He was officially made a bishop on December 18, 1716.

Later, on March 26, 1720, he took on an even bigger role. He became the Grand Inquisitor of Spain. The Grand Inquisitor was the head of the Spanish Inquisition. This was a special court that looked into people's religious beliefs. During his time, the Inquisition was very active in Spain.

Juan de Camargo stopped being the Bishop of Pamplona on March 20, 1725. He continued his work as Grand Inquisitor until his death. He passed away on May 24, 1733.
