Judith Godrèche (born 23 March 1972) is a French actress, writer, and director. She has appeared in more than 30 movies. She is also known for her work as a feminist activist, speaking up for the rights of others in the film industry.

Early Life and Career Beginnings
Judith Godrèche was born in Paris, France. Her father was a psychoanalyst and her mother was a child therapist. Her parents separated when she was eight years old.
Godrèche began her career at a young age. She started modeling for a Japanese chocolate company and a teen magazine. At 14, she left school to focus on acting. Her first major role was in the movie Les mendiants. During this time, she worked with director Benoît Jacquot, who was 25 years older than her.
Rise to Fame
Success in French Cinema
In 1989, Godrèche starred in the film The 15 Year Old Girl. This movie made her famous in France. The next year, she was nominated for a César Award for Most Promising Actress for the film The Disenchanted. The César Awards are the most important film awards in France, similar to the Oscars in the United States.
In 1991, she was chosen to be a member of the jury at the 41st Berlin International Film Festival, a major film festival in Germany. She also wrote a novel called Point de côté, which was published in 1994 and received good reviews.
International Recognition
Godrèche became known to American audiences with the 1996 film Ridicule. Two years later, she starred in the popular movie The Man in the Iron Mask alongside famous actors Leonardo DiCaprio and Jeremy Irons.
In 2002, she was nominated for another César Award, this time for Best Supporting Actress. The nomination was for her role in the hit European movie L'Auberge espagnole. She later appeared in the American TV show Royal Pains.
Personal Life
Godrèche was married to comedian Dany Boon from 1998 to 2002. They have a son named Noé. She also has a daughter named Tess with actor and director Maurice Barthélemy.
Godrèche's father is Jewish, and his parents were Holocaust survivors. She has said that she has a close relationship with her grandparents and has thought about formally converting to Judaism.
Activism and Speaking Out
In recent years, Godrèche has become an important voice for change in the film industry. In February 2024, she spoke out about difficult experiences she had with directors Benoît Jacquot and Jacques Doillon when she was a teenager.
At the 49th César Awards in 2024, she gave a powerful speech about the need for a safer environment in the movie business. She talked about how important it is for people to listen to and support those who have been treated unfairly.
Following her speech, she created a short film called Moi aussi (which means "Me Too" in English). The film was shown at the famous Cannes Film Festival. It shares the stories of thousands of people who have faced similar challenges. Her work has helped start important conversations in France and around the world.
