Daechu-cha (Hangul: 대추차) is a special drink from Korea. It is a traditional Korean tea made from a fruit called jujube. Jujubes are also known as red dates.
This tea has a beautiful deep ruby-brown or dark maroon color. It is also very healthy! Daechu-cha is full of good things like iron, potassium, and important vitamins B and C. People often add pine nuts on top for extra flavor.
How to Make Daechu-cha
There are two main ways to prepare Daechu-cha. You can either boil dried jujubes or mix preserved jujubes into hot water. Both methods make a delicious and healthy drink.
Boiling Dried Jujubes
To make Daechu-cha from dried jujubes, you boil them in water. It is best to use sun-dried jujubes if you can find them. You simmer them on low heat for a long time. This can take about eight hours or even a whole day. The goal is for the liquid to become sweet and syrupy.
Using Preserved Jujube Syrup
Another easy way is to use preserved jujubes. These are often sold as a sweet syrup in Korean grocery stores. You just need to add this syrup to boiling water. This makes it much quicker to enjoy a warm cup of Daechu-cha.
