While he was studying, Jules Berry became very interested in theater. He tried out for a role and was hired by the Théâtre Antoine-Simone Berriau. This was his first step onto the stage. He acted in plays like La Mort du duc d'Enghien.

Later, he performed at other famous theaters in Paris. These included the Théâtre de l'Ambigu-Comique. During a tour in Lyon, a theater director named Jean-François Ponson noticed him. Ponson hired Jules for 12 years to work at a theater in Brussels, Belgium. Audiences in Brussels really loved his performances. He starred in popular shows there, such as Le Mariage de mademoiselle Beulemans.
