Julie Tan Shao Yin (born on September 22, 1992) is a talented actress and video game streamer from Singapore. She is well-known for her acting roles, including being the main female character in the movie That Girl in Pinafore.
Early Life and Education
Julie Tan was born in Malaysia. She moved to Singapore for her education. She studied Drama at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, which helped her prepare for her acting career.
Acting Career Highlights
Julie started her acting journey in 2008. Her first role was in a TV movie called The Promise, where she played a girl with a learning disability. In the same year, she also came in second place in a competition called The New Paper's New Face.
In 2010, Julie appeared in several TV shows like The Illusionist and New Beginnings. A big opportunity came in 2011 when she was offered a chance to join a K-pop girl group named Skarf. However, she decided to focus on acting instead. She then took on important roles in TV dramas such as A Tale of 2 Cities and A Song to Remember.
Julie also starred in movies. In 2013, she was in Judgement Day and That Girl in Pinafore. She even hosted a show called A Date with K-pop Stars in 2014, where she visited South Korea and spent time with famous K-pop idols.
Her first main role in a TV series was in 96°C Café in 2013. She also appeared in Gonna Make It that year. A very important role for her was playing the main villain, Dong Zihuai, in The Dream Makers II in 2015. This role was a big success for her and helped her win her first acting award. In 2016, Julie took a break from acting to study at the New York Film Academy's acting school for four months, to improve her skills even more.
Since then, Julie has continued to act in many television series and films. Some of her notable TV roles include The Lead, My First School, and Peace & Prosperity. She has also been in movies like Wonder Boy.
