Julien Simon-Chautemps: A Racing Engineer's Journey
Early Career and Education
Julien studied at a special French school. It was called the Institut polytechnique des sciences avancées. He graduated in 2002 as an aerospace engineer.
He started his career in 2003. He became the Technical Director for Prema Powerteam. He worked there until 2007. After that, he joined Trident Racing for a short time in 2007.
Working in Formula One
Julien Simon-Chautemps joined Formula One in 2007. This is the highest level of car racing. He became a "race engineer." A race engineer helps a driver and team. They make sure the car is set up perfectly for each race.
First F1 Teams
From 2007 to 2010, Julien was the race engineer for Jarno Trulli. They worked together at Toyota. Later, they moved to Lotus.
Time at Renault
In 2011, Julien moved to the Renault team. He worked with several famous drivers there. These included Vitaly Petrov, Kimi Räikkönen, Pastor Maldonado, Romain Grosjean, and Jolyon Palmer.
Joining Sauber and Alfa Romeo
In 2017, Julien joined the Sauber team. This team later changed its name. In 2019, it became Alfa Romeo. When Kimi Räikkönen joined Alfa Romeo in 2019, Julien became his race engineer again. It was their second time working together.
