Julio César Romero Insfrán (born August 28, 1960), known to many as Romerito, is a famous former football player from Paraguay. He played as a midfielder, which means he helped both defend and attack on the field. Many people think he is one of the best football players Paraguay has ever had. He is also the only player from Paraguay to be chosen by the legendary Pelé for his list of the top 125 greatest living footballers, called the FIFA 100, back in 2004.

Romerito's Amazing Football Journey
Starting Out in Paraguay
Romerito was born in Luque, Paraguay. He began his football career in 1977 at a local club called Sportivo Luqueño. By 1979, his great playing skills earned him a spot on the Paraguay national team.
He played in the FIFA World Youth Championship that year. Many people thought he was one of the best players in the tournament, just like Diego Maradona. In the same year, Romerito was a key player when Paraguay won the Copa América, scoring three important goals.
Playing for Big Clubs Around the World
In 1980, Romerito joined the New York Cosmos team in the United States. There, he played alongside other football legends like Carlos Alberto and Franz Beckenbauer. In the 1980 Soccer Bowl, he scored the winning goal that helped his team win 3–0.
Later, Romerito moved to Brazil to play for Fluminense. He became a huge fan favorite there. In 1985, he was even named the South American Footballer of the Year. He led Fluminense to win the Campeonato Brasileiro, which is a major league title in Brazil.
In 1989, he had a short time playing for FC Barcelona in Spain. After that, he played in Mexico for Puebla F.C..
Returning to South America
After his time in Europe and Mexico, Romerito came back to South America. He finished his career playing for clubs like Olimpia, Club Cerro Corá, and Sportivo Luqueño in Paraguay. He also played for Deportes La Serena in Chile.
