FIFA 100 facts for kids
The FIFA 100 is a special list of the world's greatest living football players. The famous Brazilian football star Pelé created this list in 2004. He chose these players to celebrate the 100th anniversary of FIFA, which is the main organization for football around the world.
The number "100" in the name stands for FIFA's 100th birthday. It does not mean there are exactly 100 players on the list. Pelé actually picked 125 players! This included 123 male players and 2 female players.
Choosing the Best Players
Pelé, who is often called the greatest footballer of all time, was asked by FIFA to make this list. He looked at players from different countries and different times. The goal was to include players who were still alive in 2004.
The list features many legendary players who had already retired from playing. It also includes some younger stars who were still active in 2004. For example, some players like Gianluigi Buffon and Emre Belözoğlu were still playing even in 2020!
