Julián Gómez García-Ribera, known better as Julián Gorkin, was born in January 1901 in Benifairó de les Valls, Spain. He passed away on August 8, 1987, in Paris, France. Julián Gorkin was a Spanish writer and a key leader. He was involved in a political group called the Workers' Party of Marxist Unification (POUM). This was during the difficult time of the Spanish Civil War.

Gorkin wrote many books about politics and culture. He also wrote novels and plays. After the Spanish Civil War ended, he had to leave Spain. He went to Mexico, where he joined a group of socialists. These socialists were against the ideas of Joseph Stalin, a powerful leader from the Soviet Union. Gorkin helped important people like Victor Serge and his son Vlady get visas. This allowed them to enter Mexico when they were escaping from the Nazis who were invading France.

When Julián Gorkin returned to Paris in 1948, his political views had changed. He became strongly against communism. From 1953 to 1963, he worked as an editor in Paris. He edited a magazine called Cuadernos. This magazine was published by a group known as the Congress for Cultural Freedom. This group worked to promote cultural freedom around the world.
