A Look Back at Juncal's History
Puerto Rico was once under the control of Spain. After a war between Spain and the United States, known as the Spanish–American War, Puerto Rico became a territory of the United States in 1898. This change happened because of a peace agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898.
Soon after, in 1899, the United States government counted everyone living in Puerto Rico. This official count is called a census. The census found that 761 people lived in Juncal barrio at that time. Over the years, the number of people living in Juncal has changed.
