Early Life and Creativity
Shayna McHayle was born in East New York, Brooklyn on October 31, 1991. Her father was from Jamaica and her mother was from Trinidad. After her parents separated, her mother raised her. Her mother always encouraged her to be creative. She even let Shayna dye her hair to express herself. Her mother also taught Shayna and her sisters to practice self-love, which means to value and care for yourself.
Shayna started rapping in high school. She was part of a group of friends called Primp. She graduated at 16. After high school, she went to the Fashion Institute of Technology. Later, she got a job in a store and started a YouTube channel for fun.

In 2012, Shayna released her first song as Junglepussy. It was called "Cream Team" and was on YouTube. She then released another song called "Stitches". In 2013, she performed with the famous rapper Lil' Kim at an event called Westway.

On May 11, 2018, Junglepussy released her album JP3. It featured other artists like Rico Love and Gangsta Boo. The album was accidentally released a day early. JP3 received very high praise from music critics. On Metacritic, which combines scores from many reviews, JP3 got an average score of 83 out of 100. This means it was "universally acclaimed," or loved by almost everyone who reviewed it. Vibe magazine listed it as one of the top hip-hop albums by women in 2018. It was also nominated for an award by the American Association of Independent Music in 2019.
In 2020, Junglepussy released her fourth studio album, JP4. The Guardian newspaper described it as a mix of "nu-metal, alt-rock and funk" music styles. NME magazine called the album "stunning." They praised Junglepussy for combining many different sounds and music types while still making a strong and lasting album. This album included appearances from Gangsta Boo and Ian Isiah.

Public Image and Message
Junglepussy has talked about how the TV show Moesha and its star, Brandy, influenced her when she was young. She told Paper magazine that she saw Brandy on Moesha keeping her natural hairstyles like cornrows and braids. Brandy still looked stylish and succeeded in her music and acting. Junglepussy learned from this that being a Black girl doesn't mean you only have to care about hair and makeup. She said Brandy cared about books, culture, and her future. This showed Junglepussy that you can care about both your appearance and your mind.
