Shayna McHayle was born on October 31, 1991. She grew up in East New York, Brooklyn. Her father was from Jamaica and her mother was from Trinidad. After her parents separated, her mother raised her.
Her mother always encouraged her to be creative. She let Shayna dye her hair to express herself. Her mother also taught Shayna and her sisters to love themselves.
Shayna started rapping in high school. She was part of a group of friends called Primp. She graduated when she was 16. After high school, she went to the Fashion Institute of Technology. Later, she got a job in a store. She also started a YouTube channel for fun.

On May 11, 2018, she released another album called JP3. This album featured other artists like Rico Love and Gangsta Boo. The album was accidentally released a day early. JP3 received very good reviews from music critics. On Metacritic, which collects reviews, it got an average score of 83 out of 100. This means it was "universally acclaimed". Vibe magazine listed it as one of the "25 Hip-Hop Albums by Bomb Womxn of 2018". It was also nominated for an award called the Libera Awards in 2019.
In 2020, Junglepussy released her fourth studio album, JP4. The Guardian newspaper described it as a mix of different music styles. NME magazine called the album "stunning".
