Junsele is a small town in Sweden. It is located in Sollefteå Municipality, which is part of Västernorrland County. In 2010, about 895 people lived there.
Junsele is famous for its zoo, where you can even see rare white tigers! The town also has a tourist office, a health center, a cinema, and a library. These are all found near the Municipality office.
Close by, you can visit the traditional forest village of Långvattnet. This area is a special nature reserve. It is known for its interesting rock formations and is surrounded by fifty lakes. You can enjoy many types of fishing there. The birds in the reserve are also quite special to see.
Where is Junsele Located?
Junsele is quite far inland in Sweden. It is about 100 kilometers (62 miles) from Örnsköldsvik by air. However, the road journey is longer. The town is located to the east of the Scandinavian Mountains. It sits at a fairly normal height above sea level.
What is the Climate Like?
Junsele has a subarctic climate. This means it has big changes in temperature between seasons and even during one day. Summers are short and warm, sometimes very hot in July. Winters are long, but they are not as harsh as in some other northern places.
However, it can get very cold sometimes. The lowest temperature ever recorded was -45.8 degrees Celsius (-50.4 degrees Fahrenheit). This happened during a very cold period in January 1987.
