Justice League United, often called JLU, is a team of superheroes. They appear in American comic books published by DC Comics. The team was created by Jeff Lemire and Mike McKone.
The JLU first appeared in Justice League United #0 in April 2014. This special issue introduced the team. Key members included Animal Man, Equinox, Green Arrow, Martian Manhunter, Stargirl, Supergirl, Adam Strange, and his partner Alanna Lewis. This new team formed after a big event called "Forever Evil". It also happened after the previous team, the Justice League of America, was no longer active.
How the Team Started
The idea for Justice League United began in 2013. This was after the "Forever Evil" storyline was planned to finish. Writer Jeff Lemire and artist Mike McKone were chosen to work on a new series. It was first going to be called Justice League Canada. This was because the stories would take place in Canada. The creators planned for Adam Strange and a new Canadian hero to join the team.
Animal Man also became part of the group. His own comic book series, which Jeff Lemire also wrote, ended in December.
Instead of Justice League Canada, the series was relaunched in April 2014. It was named Justice League United and started with a special zero-issue. The new Canadian hero was revealed to be Miiyahbin Marten. She is a 16-year-old Cree teenager from Moose Factory. Her superhero name is Equinox. Her special powers come from the Earth itself and change with the seasons.
The comic series ended in December 2015. News reports suggested that lower sales were the main reason for it being canceled.
