Mark Justin Roiland (born February 21, 1980) is an American voice actor, animator, writer, and producer. He is famous for co-creating the animated TV show Rick and Morty. For many years, he was the voice of the main characters, Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith.
Roiland also co-created the show Solar Opposites, where he voiced the main character, Korvo. He has voiced many other cartoon characters, like the Earl of Lemongrab in Adventure Time, Blendin Blandin in Gravity Falls, and Oscar in Fish Hooks.
In 2023, Roiland stopped working on Rick and Morty and Solar Opposites. The voice roles for his characters were given to new actors. He also founded a video game company called Squanch Games, but he left the company in 2023.

Early Life and Education
Justin Roiland was born and grew up in Manteca, California. He went to Sierra High School and later Manteca High School, graduating in 1998. After high school, he studied at Modesto Junior College. Roiland has dyslexia, which is a condition that can make reading and writing challenging.
Career in Animation and TV
In the early 2000s, Roiland became involved with Channel 101, a creative group in Los Angeles. There, he made and acted in many short films. This is where he met Dan Harmon, who would later become his partner in creating Rick and Morty.
Roiland also appeared on TV shows like The Sarah Silverman Program. He said that some of his biggest inspirations were cartoons like The Simpsons, The Ren & Stimpy Show, and Beavis and Butt-Head.
Creating Rick and Morty
In 2012, the TV network Adult Swim asked Dan Harmon to create a new animated show. Harmon asked Roiland to work with him. Together, they created Rick and Morty. The show was based on a short cartoon Roiland had made years earlier.
Rick and Morty first aired in 2013 and became a huge hit. Fans loved its creative stories and science fiction themes. From 2013 to 2022, Roiland voiced both Rick and Morty. He was also a co-writer and executive producer for the show. The show's success led to a lot of merchandise, including toys, clothing, and a mobile game called Pocket Mortys.
Video Games and Other Projects
In 2016, Roiland started a video game studio called Squanch Games. The company makes funny and unusual games. One of its first big games was Accounting+, a virtual reality game. Later, the studio released other popular games like Trover Saves the Universe and High on Life.
In 2021, Roiland became interested in NFTs (non-fungible tokens). He sold a collection of digital art called "The Best I Could Do" for over a million dollars.
