Józef Zych (born 23 March 1938) is a Polish lawyer and politician. He was a member of the Polish People's Party. Mr. Zych served in the Sejm, which is Poland's parliament. He held important roles like Deputy Marshal of the Sejm and Marshal of the Sejm. He also worked as a lawyer for many years.

Early Life and Education
Józef Zych was born on March 23, 1938. He grew up in Giedlarowa, Poland. As a young person, he was involved in scouting activities.
He finished high school in Leżajsk in 1956. Later, he studied law at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. He earned his law degree in 1966. In 1976, he completed his doctorate in law. His special area of study was labor and social security law.
Career as a Lawyer
After finishing his studies, Józef Zych became an attorney. An attorney is a lawyer who represents people in legal matters. He worked as a lawyer for many years. From 1983 to 1991, he was the president of the National Council of Attorneys-at-law. This was a very important position for lawyers in Poland.
Political Journey
Józef Zych began his political career in 1975. He joined the United People's Party. In 1989, he was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP). This meant he became a representative in the Sejm. The Sejm is like the House of Representatives in some other countries.
Roles in the Sejm
Mr. Zych served in the Sejm from 1989 to 2015. During this time, he held several important leadership positions:
- Deputy Marshal of the Sejm: He was a Deputy Marshal from 1991 to 1995 and again from 2004 to 2005. The Deputy Marshal helps the Marshal lead the Sejm.
- Marshal of the Sejm: From 1995 to 1997, Józef Zych was the Marshal of the Sejm. This is a very high position, similar to the Speaker of a parliament.
- Senior Marshal of the Sejm: He also served as the Senior Marshal of the Sejm in 2005 and 2011. The Senior Marshal is usually the oldest member of the Sejm and leads the first meeting of a new parliament.
He was also involved in creating the Constitution of the Republic of Poland in 1997. This is the main law of Poland.
Later Public Service
After 2015, Józef Zych continued to be involved in public service. He became a member of the State Tribunal. This is a special court that deals with high-ranking officials. He served there from 2015 to 2019 and again since 2023. He also worked as an advisor for the Polish Insurance Association. Mr. Zych has also contributed to academic work and taught at the Collegium Intermarium.
