Kīlauea is a small community in Kauaʻi County, Hawaii, United States. It's known as a census-designated place (CDP). This means it's an area that the government counts for population, but it doesn't have its own city government.

As of 2020, about 3,014 people live in Kīlauea. The community shares its name with the famous Kīlauea volcano on the island of Hawaii. In the Hawaiian language, "Kīlauea" means "spewing" or "much spreading."

The historic Kīlauea Point Lighthouse was built in 1913. It stands on the island of Kauai in Hawaii.

Kīlauea is located on the northeastern coast of Kauai. The Pacific Ocean is to its north. To the west, it borders another community called Kalihiwai.

A main road, Hawaii Route 56, runs through the southern part of Kīlauea. This road can take you about 7 miles (11 km) west to Hanalei. If you go about 6 miles (10 km) east, you'll reach the Moloaa area. This area includes the Moloaa Forest Reserve and overlooks Moloaa Bay.

The total area of Kīlauea is about 5.3 square miles (13.6 square kilometers). Most of this area is land. A small part, about 0.3 square miles (0.8 square kilometers), is water.

People of Kīlauea

In 2020, Kīlauea had a population of 3,014 people. There were 1,093 homes in the area. Most people lived in families, with 934 families counted.

The community is home to people from many different backgrounds. Many residents identify as White, Asian, or Pacific Islander. There are also people from two or more races. A smaller number of residents are of Hispanic or Latino origin.

The average age of people in Kīlauea is about 40 years old. About 18% of the population is 65 years or older.
