KVIrc is a computer program that lets you chat with people online. It's known as an IRC client. KVIrc works on many different computer systems. These include Windows, Linux, Unix, and Mac OS.
The "K" in KVIrc used to stand for "K Visual IRC." This was because it needed a special part called KDE to run. But from version 2.0.0 onwards, KVIrc no longer needs KDE.
Cool Features
KVIrc can connect to many chat servers at the same time. It can do this securely using SSL (which keeps your data private). It also supports IPv6, a newer way for computers to connect online.
The program understands many different ways of writing text. This means you can chat with people using different languages and symbols. KVIrc even has a special feature called "smart encoding." This lets you send and read text in different formats at the same time.
Besides the usual bold, underlined, and colored text, KVIrc has fun features. It includes a system for graphical emoticons (like emojis) and avatars (small pictures that represent you). You can turn these features off if you don't want them.
KVIrc has its own special language called KVS. People can use KVS to create their own tools and add-ons for the program. This makes KVIrc very flexible.
For privacy, KVIrc can encrypt your chats. This means your messages are scrambled so only you and the person you're chatting with can read them. It uses strong encryption methods like Blowfish or AES/Rijndael.
Split Window Mode
KVIrc has a cool "split window mode." This lets you divide your chat window into two parts. One part shows the actual chat messages. The other part shows "commands" like when someone joins or leaves the chat. You can change the size of these windows. This way, you can hide the command window if you don't need to see it.
Socket Spy
There's also a "Socket spy" feature. This tool helps advanced users and developers. It lets them see the raw messages sent between KVIrc and the chat server. This is useful for fixing problems or understanding how the program works.
How KVIrc is Developed
New official versions of KVIrc don't come out very often. However, there's usually a stable version available for testing. This version is found in something called SVN (Subversion), which is where developers keep their latest work.
For example, KVIrc version 4.2.0 was released on July 3, 2012.
