Katherine Elizabeth Callan (born January 9, 1936), known professionally as K Callan, is an American actress and author. She is famous for playing Martha Kent, the mother of Clark Kent, in the TV show Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.
More recently, she appeared in the popular movie Knives Out as Great Nana Thrombey. She also played Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist, in the historical series The Chosen.

Early Life and First Steps in Acting
K Callan was born in 1936. From the young age of five, she knew she wanted to be an actress. She acted in school plays and later studied drama at North Texas State University in Denton, Texas.
After college, she taught drama at a girls' school and even started her own children's theater. This helped her share her love of acting with young people.
A Career on Screen
Callan's first television role was in an episode of Route 66 that was filming near her home in Dallas. In 1970, she began her acting career in Hollywood. She appeared as a guest star in many popular TV shows over the years.
Some of these shows include One Day at a Time, St. Elsewhere, and JAG. She also had a key role in a famous episode of All in the Family called "Cousin Liz".
Famous Roles
Many people know Callan as Superman's mom, Martha Kent, from Lois & Clark. She played this caring and supportive character for the entire series.
She has also appeared in shows that are popular with younger audiences. She was the teacher Mrs. Monroe in Good Luck Charlie and played Lily's grandmother in several episodes of How I Met Your Mother. In the mystery movie Knives Out, she played the very old Great Nana Wanetta Thrombey.

Besides acting, Callan is also an author. She has written several books to help other actors with their careers. Her books include The Script Is Finished, Now What Do I Do? and How to Sell Yourself as an Actor. She also appeared in TV commercials for products like Geritol and Sanka.
Personal Life
Callan was married for 11 years and had three children. After her marriage ended, she moved with her children to New York to focus on her acting career.
